The trade of organic cotton is safeguarded by requiring each facility to obtain a transaction certificate for every change of ownership, every sale, and every transaction. Facilities must also submit supporting documents, including OEKOTEX® ORGANIC COTTON certificates and invoices. These documents are checked for every transaction. During the annual on-site visits, they are reviewed again to ensure compliance and to prevent fraud.

The collaboration with TextileGenesis’ digital traceability platform creates a secure, end-to-end solution for managing certified organic cotton flows. A key component is TextileGenesis’ token-based Fibrecoin™ technology, which links each physical shipment of organic cotton to a unique digital token within a closed-loop system. This approach enables transparent, tamper-resistant traceability from fibre to finished products, while significantly reducing administrative effort for ginners, spinners, manufacturers and brands.

OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON uses the segregation model, where we log based on batches or lots. Each lot is digitally recorded on the TextileGenesis’ digital traceability platform, to ensure full visibility of all actors involved in the product. This is particularly important to ensure that certified products and materials maintain the highest level of integrity to support their claims.

No. Products certified to the OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON standard must be made exclusively from certified and tested organic cotton. The use of conventional cotton is not permitted. However, as an exception, it may be used for accessories such as sewing threads or elastic bands.
