OEKO-TEX® banned the use of all biologically active products due to their potentially negative influence on human health.
Biologically active products, also called biocides, are chemicals designed to eliminate, control or repel harmful organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi etc. Biocides work by disrupting essential biological processes in target organisms, such as damaging cell membranes or interfering with metabolism.
Biocides are now forbidden in all OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, ORGANIC COTTON and LEATHER STANDARD certified articles for babies as well as in any other articles with direct contact to mucous membranes, such as for example diapers for babies and adults, menstrual underwear or tampons. The ban affects all certified articles regardless of their product class.
