Our organic cotton follows a 2-step verification process that combines physical laboratory testing with a controlled chain of custody.
The cotton used in OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON comes from farms where cotton is grown and verified in accordance with an organic standard approved in the IFOAM Family of Standards. This organic status is further verified through physical laboratory testing, including tests for genetically modified (GMO) cotton, which is widely used in conventional agriculture, as well as for pesticides and harmful substances.
The official OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON certification begins at the ginning stage. From there, the cotton is carefully tracked through every step of the supply chain via an OEKO-TEX® chain-of-custody, ensuring that the cotton remains traceable and that the final textile product is genuinely organic.
OEKO-TEX® does not sell or manufacture products. Use our OEKO-TEX® Buying Guide to locate textile and leather manufacturers carrying at least one OEKO-TEX® Standard. For more information, contact the OEKO-TEX® institute in your respective country.
The "under review" status indicates that the certificate is undergoing renewal, with samples reviewed and tested for the next one-year term. OEKO-TEX® certificates are valid for one year, and materials covered by the certificate are retested in partner laboratories to ensure compliance with the latest criteria.
Use our Label Check tool by entering the label number to verify certification validity. If a product is advertised as certified, the packaging or the product itself should feature the label with the unique product ID. If not, please provide us with a link to the product for further investigation.
Please ensure that you enter the label number with case-sensitive characters, special characters, and blank spaces. Do not include the name of the testing institute. If you're unable to find a result despite entering correct information, please reach out to us for assistance.
No. Products certified to the OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON standard must be made exclusively from certified and tested organic cotton. The use of conventional cotton is not permitted. However, as an exception, it may be used for accessories such as sewing threads or elastic bands.
OEKO-TEX® ORGANIC COTTON uses the segregation model, where we log based on batches or lots. Each lot is digitally recorded on the TextileGenesis’ digital traceability platform, to ensure full visibility of all actors involved in the product.
This is particularly important to ensure that certified products and materials maintain the highest level of integrity to support their claims.
Please contact the seller or brand directly regarding complaints about products. OEKO-TEX® does not sell or manufacture products; we test and certify textile and leather products.
